Nicked this photo, they make a hell of racket and there seem to be more of them here than in the Eastern Suburbs around Double Bay.
Day 5
Wind is very very light as I speak, but th forecast is for SE 10-15 so fingers crossed the breeze gets up. We carry the qualifying position as a non drop'ble race so we've got our work cut out. Hopefully though we can spear in some good results and move up the ladder a bit.
Day 4
We were second fleet out again, so watched from the shore as the first lot enjoyed a 8 - 12 knot 3 lapper in a SE'ly course between Manly circle and the middle of the Heads. Archie & Dan won with a massive margin. As we got out the breeze built, sucking into a local system from the West. Beautiful sailing breeze, best of the week. Pre start and our speed seemed very good. Gun goes and we're off, little problem with a leeward bridle getting caught on the leeward footstrap so we struggled a bit and probably in the 20s by the time we hit our first tack. Tacked, fixed the problem and then got going. We're fast. By the top mark we'd caught the leading bunch, although Rob & Phil were clear. 4 or 5 boats ahead, Ben & Pistol just behind, and then quite a nice gap. Spacer mark and then the hoist. Here we ran into problems, the chaps behind held their hoist and attempted to white sail past us. In the process they knocked Jarrod off the wire and we capsized. This didn't work out at all, I fell into the jib sheeting system and broke it. We retired, protested and sought redress but were only given average points, so 6th, 12th & 20th plus two averages equals 25th overall... quite unfair as our drop is now weighting heavily into our outcome. Meanwhile on the race course Rob & Phil won comfortably.
